Frequently Asked Questions
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition
that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, processes information,
and experiences the world around them. It is characterized by differences in social
communication, repetitive behaviors, focused interests, and sensory differences. Autism
is a spectrum; meaning every autistic person is unique, with their own strengths,
interests, and support needs.
Stimming (short for self-stimulatory behavior) refers to repetitive body movements,
sounds, or actions. Stimming is used by some autistic individuals to help regulate their
emotions, manage sensory input, or feel comfortable. A few examples of stimming are
hand flapping, rocking, and humming.
